Česká Lípa, Cultural House Crystal

KD Crystal is one of the main cultural organizations in Česká Lípa. It is located in the multifunctional building in the centre of the town, which was designed by Mr. Jiří Suchomel and his cooworkers. The cultural house is situated at one side of the monastery garden (presently a museum is located there). The building itself was built to link the terrain difference between the garden and the valley of Ploučnice river. The inclined south façade with the function of air collector of sun energy, the position of the building partially in the ground, good insulation and the possibility of heat accumulation creates the overall concept of energy savings. Designing and building was spread over 15 years. The construction started in1975 and the house was opened in December 1990.

Apart from two main halls and foyer, the building consists of a cinema, restaurant, ballet hall, classrooms, music club and a gallery named “Dé ja vue".
