Česká Lípa, Jiráskovo Theatre

At the site of present Jiráskovo Theatre was in 1907 built town gym. In 1932 the municipal office decided to build the theatre. After the war the town issued a decision to re-open the theatre so on 28 October, 1945 the theatre was ceremonially opened. Many various performances were held there including every year celebration of Eduard Beneš’s birthday, the then president.

In 1959 a famous Shostakovich song “About woods” performed by Common Choir. At the end of 1970’s a large reconstruction took place and the theatre was opened again. In 1980’s many theatre performances were presented there and the ensembles from all over the Czech Republic were coming to show their pieces of work. Further, a TV programme was made there. The programme was designed to honour the best workers.

In 1992 an Art Agency Agnez opened in the premises of the theatre and rented the place from the town. Since 2005 the theatre has been a part of Cultural House Crystal with the administration of the town.
