Filipov near Rumburk, Basilica Of Virgin Mary

The spiritual administration of this pilgrim place was entrusted to The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in 1885. They built a monastery nearby the Basilica in 1914-1915. Around 1930 Filipov was one of the most frequently visited pilgrim place in Middle Europe. Unfortunately after the WW II. German inhabitants were moved out of Filipov. Czech who came to live there did not possess the right feelings for the place and the site started to decay. The fact the Basilica was situated close to the border the previous political regime tried to move the close border line in front of the church. If Basilica appeared there nobody would have been able to save the place. From 1950’s to 1970’s the building undergone a very difficult time. A newly appointed priest Zdenek Maryska decided to rebuild the Basilica as well as the chapel.

Filipov is not only a comforting place in today’s stormy world but also an extraordinary spiritual bridge between bordering countries. Every week, people from Germany and the Czech Republic come together to celebrate mass and pray. The mass service is held every Sunday from 10.30 in both languages. Everyone who comes has the opportunity to contemplate in the silence. The place offers soothing and healing arms of Virgin Mary.

duchovní správa poutního místa byla roku 1885 svěřena otcům redemptoristům, kteří v těsné blízkosti Baziliky minor vybudovali v letech 1914-1915 klášter. Kolem roku 1930 byl Filipov jedním z nejnavštěvovanějších poutních míst ve střední Evropě. Jenže po druhé světové válce občané německé národnosti byli z Filipova odsunuti. Češi, kteří sem přišli místo nich, už neměli k místu ten správný vztah a poutní místo upadávalo. To, že bazilika leží těsně u hranic, vyvolávalo také časté pokusy komunistických úřadů posunout linii uzavřeného hraničního pásma před kostel. Jakmile by se ale v této zóně bazilika ocitla, nedalo by se už zabránit chátrání.
