Jablonec nad Nisou, The Town Theatre

On the 22nd December 1894, in order to build a new theatre, The Jablonec Theatre Company was established and Richard Näbe - director of local Union Bank branch office became a chairman of this Company.
The inauguration of the new theatre took place on the 21st September 1907. There were performed a few smaller pieces at the beginning of the evening and the main event of this evening was performance of vaudeville "Husarská horečka" by Gustav Kadelburg and Richard Skowronek. Starting from the first theatre season 1907/08 Jablonec stage could show off the company which produced play, opera and operetta.
Jablonec theatre, unlike many other theatres in Germany, performed up until 1944 and the theatre company performed not only on its home stage but very often performed as a guest in neighbouring towns and villages.
The 90s finished with ideological and administrative influencing and politic exponents left management of cultural institutions. In 1990 the national board council decided about the change of name of the Julius Fučík Theatre to The Town Theatre.
In present days The Town Theatre in Jablonec nad Nisou offers eight serial groups oriented on play, music, fairytales for the youngest, performances for students, opera and ballet. Annually more than two hundred performances are presented to more than eighty thousand visitors.
A set of 114 pieces of original secession chandeliers and well-kept wall chandeliers in sixteen different types belong to the most valuable pieces of interior equipment of the theatre.
